If you find books on the shelves in poor condition such as with writing on pages, damaged pages or books with pages falling out that cannot be repaired, the books can be deleted from the catalogue and thrown in the bin.
The ‘Books to be deleted’ list can be found on the library drive.
To delete books:
- Go to the library catalogue found in ‘Your Books’ of LibraryThing. In the search bar for the catalogue, scan the barcode on the inside of the book to bring up its record. Click the small red cross on the right side to delete the book from the catalogue.
- Take out the old barcode and if it is reusable then place in the barcodes envelope in locker 3. If the barcode is ripped then throw in the bin.
- Check to see if the book has value on We Buy Books. If the book has a value, then place on the ‘We Buy Books’ shelf of Stacks Cupboard 3. If the book does not have value then place on the Please Help Yourself cart. If the book is a children’s book, it can go on the ‘Books for Schools’ shelf at the bottom of Stacks Cupboard 3 and 4.
