There have been a few incidents at the library lately which have been a bit worrying, and which have led the Trustees to think about procuring advice and possibly training from our Safer Neighbourhood Team (our local police), particularly with regard to dealing with aggressive patrons.

It is important that all incidents of this kind are recorded in the new Incident Book (see picture) which is kept under the counter with all the other library folders. If you are involved in, or witness to, an incident at the library, please be sure to record it as soon as possible after the incident takes place, and to let me know when they occur. I have completed one entry myself relating to something which happened in the library last Saturday where two patrons got into a heated argument and I had to intervene. It was not pleasant for anyone concerned, and I did not feel equipped to deal with it, so am looking forward to some advice from professionals on this. Please note that when this training is provided, it will be essential for all to attend, so we will do our best to provide a variety of dates.

Incidentally (forgive the pun), the Accident Book, which used to live at the end of the cafe bar near the First Aid Box, has gone missing. Both Maria Adiseshiah and I have searched high and low to no avail. If you’ve got it, or know where it’s gone, please bring it back! In the meantime, I’m ordering a replacement in case it doesn’t turn up. This will also live under the library counter with all the other documentation.
