Book Stock Shift Tasks

  • Checking the state of the shelves – are there any areas that need attention, for example are there many books out of place in the Children’s section? Check each section to see which requires priority

 

  • Check area near printer for books that need attention, for example book donations that need to go on their shelf in Stacks Cupboard 3 and 4.
  • Reading the shelves – make sure books are on the right shelves and in alphabetical order where needed. Check that books are in the right way, the spines should be visible. Non Fiction books have blue dots on spine or Dewey Decimal number and should not appear on Fiction shelves.

 

  • Checking display cart and organise display to suit reading event for that week/month, such as Black History Month. If there is no reading event then recently added books or book by local authors can be displayed.   • Blue dots for Non Fiction books. Check the spines of Non Fiction books. They should have a blue dot on their spine to distinguish them from Fiction books. Their tag can be checked on catalogue to see if they need blue dot. Blue dots can be founds on top shelf of Filing cabinet.

 

  • Checking books have the correct pencil mark on the first page and that their tag is correct on their record on TinyCat

C for Crime, R for Romance, CH for Children’s Chapter Books, YA for Young Adult, FL for Foreign Language, B for Biography, WB for Well Being

  •  Check behind shelves for books that have fallen behind
  •  Processing donated books – instructions available
  •  Weeding books – instructions available
  •       Adding books – check ‘add to catalogue’ shelf if there are books to add then follow instructions 
  •       Overseeing Large Print Loans from Brent Libraries. The collection and delivery dates of the books appear on the side of the boxes.
  •       Organising sale and collection of discarded books through We Buy Books.
  •       Check Stacks Cupboard 1 to see if there are books that need covering or repairing. Cover and repair as necessary

 

  •       Check Overdue Books list. Working from most recent go through list and see if any of the book are on the shelves where they have not been returned on TinyCat. Once found, scan as returned on TinyCat and place back on shelf. 

 

  • Recycling removed barcodes from discarded books with double sided tape for future use.
